Career Pathways & Crosswalks in the Hotel, Retail and Restaurant Industries
In follow-up to the regional Hospitality, Tourism and Retail Workforce Summit, the Chicago Workforce Board in partnership with industry associations has issued a report entitled Career Pathways & Crosswalks in the Hotel, Retail and Restaurant Industries. The report examines career opportunities and core skill/competency requirements for the three service industries, identifies career crosswalks between the industries, and presents a potential role for the workforce development system in strengthening career pathways.
Hospitality, Tourism, and Destination Retail Summit:
The Workforce Boards of Metropolitan Chicago convened the Hospitality, Tourism, and Destination Retail Workforce Summit on September 29, 2005. Approximately 200 individuals attended the summit, representing employers, industry and trade associations, the education and training community, organized labor, and policy agencies.
In the metropolitan Chicago area, the hospitality, tourism and destination retail industry is the fastest growing industry in the region’s economy. The primary goal of the Workforce Summit was to generate collaborative recommendations for building a highly skilled workforce that meets the needs of employers in the Chicago Metropolitan region.
